Message from Brooke
I will never forget my very first ballet class at the age of three. Putting on my cornflower blue leotard and crossover with my pink tights and full sole leather ballet shoes. My hair pulled back into a ballet bun and photos for Mum and Dad before leaving the house. That day sparked my lifelong dream. I fell in love with the discipline from the beginning and soon after, my obsession with the craft, the storytelling, losing yourself in the music and expressing yourself became a part of my DNA. From that day I knew ballet was my first love. Yes, I was so fortunate to go and train at The Australian Ballet School followed by an incredibly memorable 12-year career with The Australian Ballet. I travelled the world representing my country with great pride, worked with world-renowned and some of our country’s greatest and most established creatives, and shared the stage with some of the biggest ballet stars in the world.
Throughout my entire career I constantly took the opportunity to guest teach at ballet schools, adjudicate, mentor and market our artform. Not every child has the burning desire to make it a career or has the capacity too. But from my experience most children love to dance. That feeling when you first get swept up in a tutu and the sound of marvellous classical music stays with you. The joy I have found in teaching adult ballet has been just as enriching.
Going back to something that brought you so much joy as a child is like coming home. At Studio 696 I want to teach children from 3-6 years old the fundamentals of ballet technique whilst giving them the magic of the artform and allowing them the space for self-expression with no pressure. Giving them confidence, joy and fun. I want adults to come back to the barre or introduce themselves to the artform and escape into our stunning sanctuary whilst working muscles you didn’t even know you had. Throughout my career the two things that kept me on stage and in a great frame of mind to perform at my peak was Pilates and yoga. We will be bringing like-minded teachers with an infectious energy to our studio whose philosophy is aligned with ours. We want Studio 696 to not only be a space to workout but a community. Life is so fast paced today and I know as a parent and as someone who had a high-pressure career, just how much taking that 45 minutes out of your day for yourself means. It would be our pleasure to have you or your child at studio 696. Ballet shaped the woman I am today and gave me confidence in how I hold myself, how I walk into a room and move my body with grace but best of all, it gave me a joy which to this day 33 years later is still indescribable.
What We're About
We believe that the magic of ballet and the craftsmanship of technique are intertwined. Our mission is to provide a destination where these two elements can flourish. As a former ballerina, our director understands the importance of preserving the art form while also encouraging creativity, self-expression, musicality, and form.
Our baby ballet and adult ballet classes are designed to nurture each student’s growth and development as a dancer, as well as simply having fun. Our small and intimate classes emphasize proper technique while also fostering an environment that encourages creativity and self-expression.
